  37. ei heartists,,,kakatapos lan ng show nina heart and echo here in dinalupihan,bataan… :whee: guys,,it started 8 in the evening,june 23 and it finished 1 in the morning,june 24 already.mix emotions talaga,,,first i really feel happy and floating to see them together for the very first time… :glee: but i am frustrated and disappointed right now because ang daming hassles the took place…ang bilis lang ng numbers nila…first was heart,she sang “one” and then “cool with you”… tumalon pa nga yung cd in “cool with you” yung bandang second stanza kaya mejo nawala xa pero she still managed to sing well…sabi nya pa babawi daw sya sa next song…panay sulyap nya kay echo sa backstage… :love: then she introduced her “sweethearrt” echo and they sang “twing nakikita ka”… :love2: kakakilig talaga,,they also dance a bit,,,ang cute ng moves nila and ng darama they made while singing the song…afterwards,,,nagbigay si hearty ng autographed pic nya in a frame,,unfortunately i did not get it…gusto nya sa lalaki ibigay,,she asked echo muna if it’s ok…then a gay went to the stage and sa kanya napunta…bineso nya pa si hearty… :toofunny: then,,,heart went na sa backstage…echo sang “ngayong gabi” and a medley of “rock baby rock”,”annieng batungbakal” and “awitin mo,isasayaw ko”…(don’t know if the titles are correct?!) he gave his autographed pic and went out na… :hmp: sobrang bilis talaga,nagmamadali kasi sila…inabangan ko sila when they went out of the civic center to have an autograph and take pics,,,i brought the pics of heart when i watched her in clark and some pics of her and echo together…but they immediately rode heart’s b-class benz…sabi ng mga guards nagmamadali kasi may taping pa… actually,nagtagal kasi yung ibang numbers before them that’s why they ran out of time…another frustrating thing was nagloko yung camera ko,,,i don’t know if maipriprint yung pics… :tsk: hindi kasi ako yung kumukuha ng pics,,yung friend ko because i was so busy watching them…pero pag naiprint,,i’ll post the pics here asap (pno nga ba submit pics?)…but despite my “kamalasan”,,,ok lang because seeing heart and echo was enough and overwhelming…hope to see them again some time sooner,,,balita na lang kayo if you know some shows of them huh?!god bless everyone!

  123. Movie greats honored via ANI Awards

    The pillars of the local movie industry will be honored tonight via the ANI Awards, “Mowelfunds Tribute to Movie Greats.” This is the celebration of the 110 years of Philippine Cinema. To be held at the Aliw Theater, it is a presentation of Mowelfund in cooperation with the Manila Broadcasting Company. It will be a free show.

    Nanette Inventor and Leo Martinez will host the event and performers are Jolina Magdangal, Sheryn Regis and Rachelle Ann Go. Presentors include Vilma Santos, Chraistopher de Leon, Eddie Garcia, Rudy Fernandez, Lorna Tolentino, Phillip Salvador, Cesar Montano, Pilita Corrales, Rico J. Puno, Toni Gonzaga, Sunshine Cruz, Jericho Rosales, Heart Evangelista, Willie Nepomuceno.

    Ms. Boots AnsonRoa, executive director of Mowelfund, said the ANI Awards was conceived from the desire to come up with an event that will pay long overdue homage to the distinctive icons that defined Philippine Cinema into what it is today. And as the name implies, ANI Awards is a harvest of the richness of heritage that was established by the most revered Filipino movie greats.

    “Mowelfund started 32 years ago with a big extravaganza that raised funds for out impoverished movie workers. We wish to replicate that same zeal and commitment from all the industry workers with this tribute, enjoining the young stars of today to honor the senior stars of yesteryears who sowed the glorious years of Philippine Cinema with their passion and talent,” Ms. Roa added.

    Nick de Ocampo, Mowelfund Film Institute director explained further: “The ANI Awards is a harvest of the golden years of Philippine Cinema through a homage honoring the origins that make its rich tradition. By looking back to the 110 years of Philippine Cinema, we are also iin a way looking forward to better years ahead. Indeed, its a great way of building tradition.”

    To be honored are the following:

    Don Jose Nepomuceno

    Manila-born Don Jose Nepomucenos zeal for establishing the Philippine movies was so fierce that by self study he became the first Filipino cinematographer. Recognized as the Father of Philippine movies, he founded Malayan Movies in 1917 and served as its producer, story and script writer, director, camera and laboratory man, art director, film editor, distributor, and exhibitor of his pictures. Nepomuceno indeed left an enduring legacy on the Filipinos love for the movies and their loyal patronage for national cinema through his life and work. His outstanding contribution to the various fields of Philippine cinema in its early stage, which has immensely contributed in defining the medium for a Filipino audience, has gained him the distinction of being a Parangal Sentenyal sa Sining Awardee in 1999.

    Honorata ‘Atang’ de la Rama

    A skilled thespian, a brilliant singer and a sterling talent for tha arts would definitely define Honorata “Atang” de la Rama, the first Filipina film actress, Capturing the audiences with her undeniable charm and charisma, the enigmatic magnetism Atang manifested in her performance earned the notice of Don Jose Nepomuceno who got her for the lead role of his movie version of the zarzuela “Dalagang Bukid,” the first Filipino film, in 1919. With this historical cinematic foray, Atang became the very first female actress in the very first Tagalog film, produced by Father of Philippine movies.

    Rosa Del Rosario

    Rosa Del Rosario was one of the most popular actresses during the Golden Age, tucking over 60 movies to her credit. But it was her liveaction portrayal of the Filipina superheroine “Darna” in 1951 that made her and the character both a household name. The first Darna movie was produced and directed by Fernando Poe Sr. under Royal Films. A faithful adaptation of the komiks serial, the production brought in hundreds of live snakes and eels for the movie. Del Rosario even had to be hung from a helicopter to create special effects for Darnas flying scenes.

    Rogelio dela Rosa and Carmen Rosales

    Before the several generations of Filipino love teams that we now know today, Rogelio dela Rosa and Carmen Rosales had already gone down in history for making early Rogelio dela Rosa and Carmen Rosales most unforgettable team-up was best remembered in their stellar pairing in the movie “Maalaala mo Kaya,” considered as one of the classics of the Golden Age of Filipino Film. Here Rosales took on an unforgettable role as dela Rosas martyr lover, further establishing her status as the highest paid Filipina actress of her time.

    Joseph Estrada

    The person to whom Mowelfund owes its existence, himself an action king matinee idol, public servant, champion of the poor, and eventually the 13th President of the Republic of the Philippines, Joseph Estrada is the true epitome of the champion of every movie workers cause. Born in Tondo, he was schooled in the most prestigious universities in the country but eventually opted to pursue an acting career. He became popularly known as “Erap” a colloquial term for ones best friend spelled backwards. He played the role in more than 100 movies and was a producer of over 70 films.

    Dolphy

    Well-loved comedian Rodolfo Vera Quizon, or more fondly called Dolphy, is movie and televisions most respected icon and Philippine show business all-time “King of Comedy.” Reserved in the industry for having challenged the conservative prejudices in the realm of Philippine film and broadcast, Dolphy has emerged a history. With his intrinsic passion for acting, Dolphy went on his way to the road to stardom armed with his excellent comic timing and heartfelt chemistry with the Filipino moviegoer. Inspiring his fellow actors and comedians to elevate their skills into a more prodigious comedic art form, Dolphy was awarded the Parangal Sentenyal sa Sining at Kultura in 1999.

    Fernando Poe Jr.

    Dubbed as the “Da King” of Philippine movies because of his box-office hits, he made over 200 films in his lifetime and ran a successful movie production firm. As a film producer ha was well loved by the industry, with a soft spot for those less privileged than the big stars. At various points in his life, his pride in his own field of art and his directorial foresight has inspired him to direct his own movies under the pseudonym Ronwaldo Reyes. He was honored with the Parangal Sentenyal sa Sining at Kultura in 1999 for his outstanding contribution to the Philippine movies through his depiction of the heroism, courage and moral uprightness of the Filipino and for being the epitome of a total film artist.

    DID you know that the Philippine film industry is already 110 years old? For an industry that’s always being talked about as nearing its death, that’s record longevity, and truly something to celebrate.

    To mark the milestone, the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowel­fund) presents Ani Awards, a tribute to Filipino movie greats, on February 23 at the Aliw Theater at the CCP Complex.

    It will be a grand production funded by Manila Broadcasting Corp., which has been handling the Metro Manila Film Festival promotions and awards nights since 2004. The event is also a fundraising activity for Mowelfund.

    Comedians Nanette Inventor and Leo Martinez will host the awards night, which honors artists who have made significant contributions to the local movie industry. Mayor Vilma Santos of Lipa, Senator Bong Revilla, Christopher de Leon, Rudy Fernandez, Sunshine Cruz, Cesar Montano, Jericho Rosales, Heart Evangelista, Phillip Salvador, Toni Gonzaga, are among those who have committed to grace the show.

    “Ani” is a Filipino word that means harvest. Nick de Ocampo, Mowelfund Film Institute director, explains, “The Ani Awards is a harvest of the golden years of local cinema. By looking back to the 110 years of Philippine Cinema, we are also in a way looking forward to better years ahead.”

    In line with the event, an exhibit of the Ani Awardees dubbed as Balik Tanaw will be held at the Aliw Theater Lobby from Feb. 17 to 23. It will feature valuable memorabilia from the movie careers of Dolphy, FPJ, Erap, Nida Blanca, Amalia Fuentes, Gloria Romero, and other glittering stars from the past.     Muntik na palang maging Kapamilya ang young actress na si Alessandra de Rossi.

     

    May offer ang ABS-CBN sa nakababatang kapatid ni Assunta de Rossi. Siya sana ang makakasama nina Heart Evangelista at Geoff Eigenmann sa serialization of the comics-turned-movie from Regal Films na Hiram Na Mukha.

     

    Ipinagpaalam ng manager ni Alex na si Manny Valera ang offer sa mga executives ng GMA-7 dahil kahit walang kontrata si Alex sa Kapuso network ay nanatili namang loyal ang young actress. Gumawa ng paraan ang GMA-7 na magkaroon kagaad ng projects si Alex kung kaya't hindi na siya natuloy sa Hiram Na Mukha.

     

    Huling napanood si Alex sa Linlang episode ng Now and Forever, kung saan kasama sina Lorna Tolentino, Polo Ravales, at Diana Zubiri. Sa primetime, huli naman siyang lumabas sa Etheria, ang sequel ng Encantadia. Tumatak si Alex sa dalawang primetime soaps na Kung Mawawala Ka bilang bunsong anak ni Eddie Garcia at sa Darna ni Angel Locsin bilang si Valentina.

Hindi ito natuloy dahil nahiram muna ng GMA-7 ang timeslot ng TAPE na part ng Dramarama Sa Hapon para gamitin ng Muli nina Alfred Vargas at Carrie Lee.

     

    Si Heart kasama ng kanyang boyfriend na si Jericho Rosales ay balik ABS-CBN na nga.

     

    Galing din sa GMA-7 si Geoff na anak nina Gina Alajar at Michael de Mesa bago ito lumipat sa ABS-CBN. Si Heart din ang kanyang unang naging partner sa soap opera na Hiram nina Kris Aquino at Dina Bonnevie. Sa kanilang muling pagsasama, may Hiram na naman sa titulo.

    Heart mahilig tumikim ng bawal

    INGLISERA at isnabera ang image ni Heart Evangelista. ‘Yan ay about a year ago na. Sa kanyang pagbabalik-showbiz, malamang mag-iiba na ang tingin ng publiko sa kanya, lalung-lalo na ng maraming movie reporters na aloof sa kanya.

    Isa sa mga kinaiinisan kay Heart ng maraming entertainment press ay hindi ito marunong magtanda ng pangalan ng mga nakainterbyu na sa kanya. Reklamo nga ng mga ito, “ilang beses na naming nakakausap si Heart, pero hindi pa rin niya alam ang aming names, ano ba naman ‘yan!”

    Ang inyong lingkod man ay biktima rin ng pagiging ‘makakalimutin’ ni Heart. Marami na ring pagkakataon na nagkaharap kami sa isang interview, pero ‘di talaga niya matandaan ang aming pangalan.

    Three days ago ay muli naming nakaharap si Heart, Love Marie Ongpauco in real life na laking Amerika at galing sa richie-rich family Ongpauco. Habang iniinterbyu namin siya, napuna naming panay ang sulyap niya sa bond paper na kanyang hawak-hawak and then, titingin siya sa nagtatanong sa kanya. At dahil ang inyong lingkod ay nakaupo sa mismong tabi niya, nasilip namin kung ano ang nilalaman ng papel na ‘yun: LIST ng names ng mga dumalo sa press conference na ‘yun ni Heart para sa upcoming new shows niya sa ABS-CBN.

    Anyway, sa kalagitnaan ng aming panayam (matapos mapag-usapan ang balak niyang pag-aaral ng Veterinary medicine, ang tungkol sa itinayo niyang Heart Can project for children with pulmonary ailments, ang kanyang pagdu-donate ng 100 nebulizers sa children’s wards ng iba’t ibang hospitals), ibinulgar din niya sa amin ang listahan at inamin niyang this time, gusto talaga niyang ma-kabisa ang mga pangalan ng kanyang mga nakakausap na press.

    And another thing about Heart ngayon, deretso na ang pananagalog niya sa interview, hindi tulad noon na tuluy-tuloy ang English niya kahit Tinatagalog siya ng kausap.

    “Nagpraktis talaga ako ng deretsong pag-Tatagalog. So, ngayon, Tagalugan na tayo,” wika niyang nakatawa.

    Sa ilang buwang absence niya sa local showbiz, pagkatapos ng career-high niya through teleseryeng Panday ng ABS-CBN na pinangunahan nila ng boyfriend na si Jericho Rosales, sa US pala siya namalagi. Nag-aral daw siya roon. Pero, talagang hindi raw niya matalikuran ang kaway ng showbiz kaya nang alukin siya ng ABS-CBN ng panibagong projects, agad niyang tinanggap.

    Valentine’s Day ang birthday ni Heart and she was given a special birthday celebration sa Homeboy ni Boy Abunda. Katatapos din lang niya sa Valentine presentation ng Your Song with John Prats and wrapped up taping for Maalaala Mo Kaya February Love series with Jericho Rosales entitled “The Kay Chua-Tinga Story”. Nagsisimula na rin siya this month for the second set of ABS-CBN Kapamilya’s Sineserye soap series and she’ll also launch a new show on ABS-CBN in time for her new album launching in summer.

    In Tagalog, ikinuwento niya kung ano ang naging activities niya noong hindi siya abala sa showbiz commitments. Pagbalik daw niya sa ‘Pinas from the States, tamang-tama namang umatake ang dalawang super-lalakas na typhoons sa bansa na nagdala ng matinding pinsala sa Bicol region. At dahil Bikolano ang kasintahang si Jericho, agad nilang dinalaw ang lugar sa Bicol na sinilangan at nilakhan ni Echo.

    “Grabe talaga ang awang naramdaman ko sa mga Bikolano sa sobrang pinsalang aking nasaksihan. ‘Yung bahay ng relatives ni Echo, sira-sira at wala nang bubong. Kaya agad niyang ipinagawa ‘yun. Wala silang kuryente at malinis na tubig. Ginawan niya ng paraang magkaroon. Noong nandun kami, sa isang fastfood na nga lang ako pinakakain ni Echo dahil talagang sobrang walang kaayusan sa kanila,” pagkukuwento ni Heart.

    So, from the very start hindi naman pala itinago sa ‘yo ni Jericho ang pinanggalingan niya? Tanong namin.

    “Never. At napakabait niyang anak, kapatid at kamag-anak. Lahat sila tinutulungan ni Jericho nang kumikita na siya sa showbiz,” aniya.

    Kaya ba minahal mo nang husto si Echo? Follow-up namin.

    Hindi nagsalita si Heart, pero napansin naming medyo nangilid ang kanyang luha sabay tangu-tango.

    Bakit parang nalungkot ka?

    “Kasi marami ang hindi nakauunawa kay Jericho. Marami ang naninira sa kanya when in fact, napakabait talaga niya at dapat talagang hangaan.”

    Kabilang ba sa mga hindi nakauunawa kay Jericho ang iyong parents na balita naming hindi boto sa kanya?

    Hindi ulit umimik si Heart.

    Napupuna lang namin sa magaling na actress-singer na ito na lahat yata ng ipinagbabawal sa kanya ay ginagawa niya. Noong una ay ayaw talaga ng Daddy niya na siya ay mag-artista. Kaya nga nang mag-audition siya sa ABS-CBN ay inilihim niya ‘yun sa kanyang father. And then nang matanggap finally ng ama ang kanyang pag-aartista, isang taga-showbiz naman ang kanyang piniling kasintahan, na again, pinag-awayan nila ng kanyang parents. At ipinagbabawal ng doktor na lumapit siya sa mga aso o pusa dahil magpapalala ito sa kanyang asthma, pero meron siyang alagang dogs and lately gusto niyang magbeterinarya, na panggagamot sa mga hayop na propesyon.

    Pero, sa mga napuna naming ito, higit naming naunawaan si Heart. Sariling prinsipyo at paninindigan ang gusto lang niyang pairalin sa kanyang buhay. Alam niya kung saan siya pupuwesto at magtatagumpay. Sagot nga niya, nang sabihan naming super-rich naman ang kanyang pamilya kaya kahit hindi na siya magtrabaho: “Kayamanan nila ‘yun. Pinagsikapan nila. At gusto ko ring yumaman sa sarili kong pagsisikap.” At tungkol kay Jericho, “Hindi naman masama ang umibig sa dating mahirap na nagsisikap umasenso. And hindi naman talaga ako makikipagrelasyon sa lalaking magpapahamak lang sa akin.”

    restaurant in ABS-CBN yesterday. He was there to surprise his girlfriend Heart Evangelista—who at that time was having a press con. Heart will celebrate her birthday tomorrow, February 14.

     

    In separate interviews, Heart and Jericho chatted with PEP
    (Philippine Entertainment Portal) about their past, their relationship, and their plans for the future.

     

    LAST YEAR'S CONTROVERSIES. Heart and Jericho, or Echo as showbiz folks would call him, went through a lot of controversies last year.

     

    First, tabloid reports have feasted on rumors that Heart got pregnant and had an abortion. Second, talk has it that both Heart and Echo have become snobs and prima donnas. Third, it has also been reported that Heart's parents objected [to] her relationship with Echo. Lastly, there has also been speculation that fans weren't buying the Heart-Echo tandem.

     

    A year later, Heart proudly says that she learned a lot from the issues thrown at her, but admits that she doesn't want it to happen again.

     

    She explained, "I don't think I wanna repeat it again ‘cause it was hard, but I wouldn't want to erase it in my life. I mean let's admit, I really went through a lot. Parang ‘boom boom boom boom!' Feeling ko kung naging iresponsable ako, you would see me in bars, nagwala na siguro ako. Di ba, ‘yon yung escape ng mga young ones nowadays?

     

    "But I needed to, I really needed to go through bugbugan stage because ‘yong wisdom naman na nakuha ko, di ba? Parang ang laki ng tinanda ko dahil doon. I was 20 but I had the mind of a 16 year old, so I need to get through that. It was needed."

     

    Heart also revealed that she hasn't completely reconciled with her parents yet, especially her dad.

     

    She remarked, "With my parents, like before I gave a little bit ano…I think hayaan ko muna mag-heal-heal. Like before, they would get bothered reading [reports], so bago pa man namin maayos ‘yong mga bagay, umiinit na ulo ng dad ko. Naloloka na siya, di ba? So hayaan na muna natin. It takes time. I admit my mistakes. I just wanted to learn to do things on my own."

     

    Heart said she is slowly fixing her relationship with her parents. Although she hasn't been speaking with her dad, she has an open communication with her mom.

     

    She admitted, "I really am a daddy's girl. I totally understand why he is like that. I've made mistakes too because you know, I was in that stage na I wanted to learn. So you know, this time, I'm making good choices."

     

    Echo isn't giving details on the issue. He simply said, "I will not lie about that. Maybe I shouldn't talk about it. You know, nothing bad
    is happening. It's a little bit silent so I'd rather keep it like that. I'm gonna give you a big surprise next time. Some say time heals all wounds. Let's see…"

     

    HEART'S DAY. Heart will be celebrating her [22nd] birthday on February 14, Valentine's Day. She says she still has no idea what her boyfriend—whom she fondly calls "Babe"—is cooking up.

     

    "Gusto ko surprise," said the birthday girl. "Actually 'pag birthday ko, selfish ako dahil Valentine's day ang birthday ko, so dapat nasa akin ang spotlight. Bahala na, surprise, surprise na lang ang hinihintay ko."

     

    Last year, the couple spent V-day in Hawaii. This year, Heart said, they will probably spend it here in the country.

     

    Jericho kept mum. He said, "I have a little something. Definitely, I have a little something. Ako pa!"

     

    Heart has only one wish on her coming birthday. She remarked, "Wish? You know I used to have a lot of wishes, but all I need, continue lang na magkaroon ako ng peace of mind, everything will be well.

     

    "Before, I had so many things going for me but I wasn't at peace. I was a teenager. I wanted to do this and that, hindi ko na-appreciate. Now, everything is not so dami, mas naa-appreciate ko siya. Mas masaya ako."

     

    Meanwhile, Echo has another wish for his love. He revealed, "She's a little bit torn ngayon sa mga decisions niya. She wants to be a veterinarian and I still has to find the time to study. At the same time, I hope she'll realize na the fans are, you know, gusto nila ‘yong… Ayaw siyempre nilang mawala si Heart.

     

    "If she deserved the kind of career she had before, I think knowing her now in a deeper way, parang she's deserving to be there again where she [once was]. She's a better person now. So I wish her guidance from the Lord. But it's not bad at all, if she wants to be a vet, I'll be here."

     

    MARRIAGE? Heart wore a diamond ring on her left ring finger. PEP asked if it was an engagement ring.

     

    She replied, "This one, gift niya sa akin 'to last year, ‘yong first year anniversary namin. No engagement yet, but don't worry, we'll announce kung meron."

     

    Heart said they don't have wedding plans yet. But when she was asked if she's ready for marriage, she simply gave a one-word answer: "Anytime."

     

    Meanwhile, Echo disclosed that he is already building a house in Loyola Grand Villas. He described it as a four-level '60s beach house with a pool, roof garden, recording studio, gym, and office. He says he has bought the 1,000 square-meter property a while back, but has only recently decided to put the land into good use. He also revealed that the house is set to cost him an eight-figure amount.

     

    Is the house a sign that Heart and he will soon be settling down?

     

    Jericho replied, "No plans yet. Well, we always talk about things. No pressure sa akin. Being a man is really tough. You have to deal with so many things and she understands that… She was just saying in a way, which Ican also say, I'm not looking for anybody else. I'm really preparing for a future.

     

    "It's like this, I wouldn't say that it's not for Heart, but I wouldn't say yes that it's for her. You know what I mean? I don't wanna say naman na baka may dumating pang iba ‘cause wala na."

     

    He explained, "I am, for example, I wanna be…medyo selfish pero I wanna be secured. Gusto ko maging secured ako sa pagkalalaki ko na ‘yong tipong if dumating ‘yong time na I wanna settle, [alangan naman] that's the only time na I'm gonna move pa lang? I wanna be ready before I decide and when I decide, there, di ba? Traditional pa rin ako."

    To kick off the festivities, Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson will star in a love story almost everyone can relate to. Ever fell in love with your best friend? Inspired by Nina’s song,”Someday” the pilot aniversarry episode tackles the said question, as Kim realizes that she’s in love with her best friend, Gerald. Unfortunately, it seems that the feeling isn’t mutual, so Kim decides to avoid him instead. Can she continue avoiding him that long? Are they really destined for each other?

    John Prats and Heart Evangelista make an on-screen comeback in the next episode, along with MYMP’s “With You”. John, who is about to get married, seeks Heart’s help, an events coordinator who’s known for wher extravagant wedding proposals. Unfortunately, her plans turn out to be a letdown, leading to John and his girlfriend’s break up.

    Meanwhile, Sarah Geronimo and Carlo Aquino team up in a love story inspired by Sarah’s “Carry My Love”. Carlo is a rich bachelor who’s perpetually bugged by his parents to get married. As a result, he asks Sarah, an employee of the theme park their family owns, to pretend that she’s his fiancee. It seems that Carlo’s got everything planned out, except for one thing: he didn’t count on them actually falling in love!

    To end things with a bang, real life lovebirds Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo pair up in a romantic comedy rendered with Ryan’s single, “Let Me Say I Love You in a Song”. Judy Ann wins the prize of a lifetime, as she gets to date the famous commercial model, Ryan. Unfortunately, the date of her dreams turn out to be quite a nightmare as she realizes that Ryan’s an arrogant snob, and gets irritated at him in turn. Will this Cinderella story end happily ever after? Better stay tuned to find out more.

    JERICHO Rosales is a happy man. Ang di niya paggawa ng pelikula, kahit may offer pa siya, reportedly from Star Cinema, is his choice. After his last movie, Pacquiao, which is based on the story of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, he has concentrated na on his music. He and his band, Jeans, have lately been promoting their album, sa bars, schools at malls. The album’s carrier single is Loose Fit. Prior to the launch in the Philippines, they had the album initially released sa Malaysia, where Jericho is well-known, dala nga na ang mga teleserye niyang ginawa sa ABS-CBN, tulad ng Pangako Sa ‘Yo, were shown there.

    Last Christmas was his and sweetheart Heart Evangelista’s second Christmas together. It was a happy one like the first one. She cooked for him his favorite na mga pagkain. And, in turn, maganang kinain lahat ni Jericho ang mga inihanda ni Heart.

    It’s likely that this Valentine, instead na kumain sa labas, ipagluluto muli ni Heart si Jericho ng kanyang mga paboritong pagkain. This way, they would not bother na kumain sa labas.

    Hindi kataka-taka kung mahusay magluto si Heart. Her family owns Barrio Fiesta chain of restaurants.

    Heart is in one of the four episodes in ABS-CBN Your Song, as the series celebrates its first anniversary with four great love stories. Teamed with Heart in the episode, With You, a song popularized by MYMP, is her ex-sweetheart John Prats.

    The first episode which will be featured first Sunday of February, inspired by songster Nina’s Someday, stars Kim Chui and Gerald Anderson. Pangalawang Sunday ang kina Heart at John.

    Sarah Geronimo will co-star with Carlo Aquino sa episode na Carry My Love, na awitin din mismo nina Sarah at Carlo.

    Sina Judy Ann Santos ang stars ng last episode na inspired naman by the song, Let Me Say I Love You.

    Went to Starbucks at ABS CBN awhile ago at around one in the afternoon.

    Then watched an awfully boring episode of Home Boy (weeee!!!) and I must say, Heart Evangelista became actually likeable. She is after all more decent than all the other “actresses” I know.

    All the sets were smaller, but they seemed so much bigger on-screen because of the wide angle lenses the channel uses, which make three feet seem, like, twelve on television. You’d be surprised by the smallness and the cramped set of Deal or No Deal. The distance of Kris Aquino’s rostrum from the platform behind can be covered by two steps. Whereas on television, it seems so much more than that.

    I realized being on media, and being involved in media makes all the lies appear as, well, lies. They make all the things on television seem ridiculously fake. Television seems to magnify everything ten times much more than their real size.

    The timeslot list was good. We were all like, “uy! I-lista niyo na lahat ng commercials na sunod-sunod! Tapos makipagpustahan kayo sa mga friends niyo!” Why naaaat???

    Anyway, we saw Janna from Let’s Go who was our classmate pala. She let us into the set of Let’s Go, but she got lost among the people who were in it since they were having an ongoing VTR. She’s nice :)

    Watch tomorrow’s episode of Home Boy, we’ll be there. :D

    Mukhang matagal pa bago gustuhin ni Jericho Rosales na magkaroon ng regular TV show.

    Nasabi namin ito dahil balitang ni-reject na naman ng aktor ang offer na soap opera ng ABS-CBN. Hindi na yata nito inalam ang kanyang makakasama, na kinabibilangan ni Christopher de Leon.

    Sabagay, sinabi na naman nitong bakasyon muna siya sa acting on TV (and movies na rin siguro) habang pinu-pursue ang pagka-musikero.

    Naalala namin ang saya nito na hindi nagkakalayo ang kinikita niya sa pagbabanda at sa TV.

    I Heart Heart

    Rama went through a Panday phase. She found Panday guapo. And Eden, of course, beautiful. In fact, one of the come-ons at the school she transferred to was that one of the main partners, Teacher Gab, is a spitting image of Heart.
    One morning, waiting for Rama at Coffee Bean near her school, who walks in but… could it be… Heart Evangelista! I almost didn’t recognize her, as she was wearing huge shades. So, whip out the camphone and go to Heart. “My daughter is a fan, can I have a picture?” Game! In fact, she was the one who took the pic from my camphone. And she knows her angle. She even took it twice, as the first one was a bit blurred. Turns out, she just lives in the area and was out jogging. She just popped into Coffee Bean for a cup of water.
    I show the pix to Rama. And she wanted to go to the cafe – NOW. “Bakit hindi mo ako sinama?” Me: “Hindi ko alam na andun pala siya…” Rama: “Eh punta tayo…” Eventually she got it that she probably won’t see Heart. I’m still hoping to run into her again. This time with The Fan.

    Uneasiness – Did a research on Ed Palmos. He’s known for helming sexy movies. He also did a comedy, a thriller…and I don’t know what else. There’s nothing much on him on the Net. Now, I’m curious to see a few of his movies. Just to get an idea how he’s improved as a filmmaker.

    Reassurance – This is an independent movie, a digital movie. And the producers are planning to submit this to the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival. Heart herself confirmed this in one of her SMS.

    Question – Is Silver Moon, Echo’s company, the one producing this movie? In an interview, Echo said his company plans to do digital independent movies as well.

    Techi Heart

    Heart owns two cell phones – a Treo and a Nokia – on which she prefers talking over texting, and from which she loves sending pictures. Also added to her gadget collection are an Apple PowerBook G4, one of the original iPods that has already been phased out (but she wants a nano), a Sony Handycam, and a Sony Cybershot digital camera. She is a very practical gadget lover, focusing more on the product’s function rather than the design. She says: “I’m not really up-to-date with the new stuff in the sense that I try to maximize everything with the old ones, because I can’t just keep on going to the new ones until I really discover what else I can do with the old ones.”

    She would describe herself as “kind-of-a-techie” because she loves to edit home videos on her PowerBook G4 laptop – sometimes giving these as gifts to friends. She also uses the GarageBand program to produce her own music, and stores her pictures on her laptop. The Apple laptop is the one gadget she can’t live without because it has everything (songs, pictures, videos); although she doesn’t bring this with her everywhere “because it’s so private; I’m scared (that it will get lost).” She chose a Mac over a Windows PC because it is “friendly, easyto- use (just click and drag), and more photographers and artists use it. They have a lot of programs that are interesting and easy to use.”

    As of interview time, Heart claims she hardly uses the internet and she’s never had her own e-mail address. She does, however, check out some forums where her fans post messages to and about her. When asked about a Multiply account that was found under her name, she asserts, “That’s not me! I never had an account in Friendster, MySpace, nothing. So don’t believe that. That is not me on Multiply, Friendster or whatever.”

    Inspired

    Inspiration is always a good thing and it shows in whatever you do. There’s no denying that inspiration is on Heart’s side. Aside from being in a relationship, Heart also says that music and certain experiences inspire her. She uses the inspiration in composing songs and creating artworks – even using make-up as a medium aside from the usual oils and pencils.

    Heart says that she has gotten stronger and gained a lot of wisdom after everything she’s been through in the past year – all the work, her asthma problem, plus all the rumors and intrigues. She is grateful to all her fans who have stood by her and supported her throughout everything.

    Looking Ahead

    When asked about her dream roles, she would like to return to her first love of drama. She doesn’t mind being paired up with anyone, “as long as he’s good.” Heart points out “It’s really important that you’re paired up with an intense actor because when you do the scene, you can’t just rely on yourself; you always have to connect with your co-stars.” But even then, she does mention that she would love to work with Piolo Pascual, Maricel Soriano and Vilma Santos. Also, aside from her upcoming album, she says that she has other movies in the works.

    With regard to her personal life, she is already back in school, working towards completing her high school education.

    She would like to take up either interior design or culinary arts of college.

    Indeed, Heart has come a long way and has proven to be a gem in the entertainment industry here in the Philippines . Flying high in showbiz, she definitely knows who she is and what she wants to do while keeping her feet on the ground.

    Music of the Heart

    Aside from acting, Heart is also passionate about music. She would like to go back to singing and there are plans for an upcoming album for which she has already started composing songs. Her wish is for an album that would be listened to long after it has been released; something that people of all ages will listen to. No more bubblegum stuff for her.

    She looks up to boyfriend Jericho Rosales and Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano when it comes to song composition, and she enjoys listening to artists like Jamiroquai, Phoenix, Coldplay, The Corrs, Jessica Simpson, James Blunt, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Jack Johnson and lots more.

    Other things that Heart loves? She collects shells, picture frames, make-up, dried flowers, candles, refrigerator magnets, glass and travel souvenirs. Since she grew up in the United States , she would like to extend her travels to places she has never been to like Europe

Finally, after a little more suspense, Ryan announced that the runners-up would both go home with P250,000 because ABC 5′s TonyBoy Cojuanco was so impressed with the Big 3…

    Jericho says he is only following his heart. The actor-singer is surprisingly open-minded about criticisms regarding his career shift.

    He believes that it will take some time before people finally accept his decision to enter the music scene. “It’s just normal that people don’t see me sing. They see me act. It’s a good decision for me to change careers. Some would say, ‘O My God, what did you do?’ Yung heart ko, yun ang gusto niya e.”

    Echo (as Jericho is often called) says that the criticisms he receives help him a lot. He speaks about music with a passion. “For me at this very moment, it’s the real thing that I embrace right now. I think I belong to music. There’s so much truth with what I do.”

    He recalls the band’s difficult moments when they were still starting out. Their first problem was “finding what music we really want to play. I love jazz, I love funk. We had several sessions mahanap lang yung gusto namin. We ended up funk-jazz na merong touch of rock.”

    “We’re just like any other band. The difference maybe is that we take it seriously. We give reason to what we do. That’s the goal of the band always.”

    Asked how far they’re willing to go, Echo, a Born Again Christian, replies: “As far as God wants us to go.”

    Echo and his fellow band members took part in the recently concluded MTV Music Summit for AIDS at the Fort Bonifacio Open Field in Taguig last December 5. Jeans performed their single “Panday” for the last concert of MTV this year. (Panday was also the title of the last TV series Jericho topbilled in ABS-CBN. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, a deadly disease that has no known cure.)

    Honored to be part of the event, the frontman of Jeans says, “It’s not just selling the music.” More importantly, he says, it’s about “being heard” and about raising awareness about AIDS. “I’m so glad that we’re here. Makakapag-perform kami with a purpose. It [AIDS] needs awareness. It’s a good thing that we can support this event.”

    Performing for this event is one of the biggest gigs they had so far.

    The actor admits getting goose bumps prior to a performance. He smiles and says, “To tell you honestly, I have them. It’s not just me. We’re a new band. We’ve been trying hard. Andami na naming nagawang gigs. Tumibay na yung dibdib ko e.”

    He ends by acknowledging his inspiration, his girlfriend Heart Evangelista. “With someone like Heart supporting me, she’s such a blessing to me. Every time I go, I call her up. If it’s good, I tell her; if it’s not good, I tell her.”

    “For Filipinos, Christmas will always be celebrated, the hard times, notwithstanding,” says ABS-CBN vice president for Creative Communications Management (CCM) Robert Labayen when asked about the SID’s theme. “Pinoys only need warm embraces, shared laughter, intimate moments and a simple noche buena to have a memorable celebration of Christmas. After all, the essence of Filipino Christmas lies in our love for family.”

    Indeed, the people behind the SID made sure images used were consistent with the premise of the special plug. Felix Nafarette of CCM adds, “If you would pay attention to the props used in the SID, you would see that those are made from recycled materials because that’s how Pinoys are – marunong mamaluktot kapag maikli ang kumot.”

    The Christmas SID, directed by Marie Jamora, marks ABS-CBN’s first time to venture into Station IDs after more than a year and a half.

    “But, it was all worth the wait,” quips Kathrina Sanchez of CCM. “After seeing the final version of the SID, the stress of the many weeks of planning, the tedious four-day shoot and the numerous, long hours spent for editing instantly vanished. We are very happy with the outcome of this year’s Christmas SID.”

    With the immense talents of the entire production crew, which includes director of photography Odessy Flores, the 2006 ABS-CBN Christmas SID perfectly translates a very strong, inspiring Christmas message through impressive visuals – masterfully photographed scenes with colors blended superbly to create the appropriate holiday mood.

    But more than just being an eye-candy, Kathrina adds the SID also touches the core of each Kapamilya because it also features a dose of heartwarmingly real scenes that highlight the values Filipinos have. These scenes, of course, feature the ABS-CBN stars and their Kapamilyas – the public, the ordinary people.

    The SID, for example, shows how Sarah Geronimo and John Prats show concern for someone in prison, while Kristine Hermosa and Diether Ocampo play Virgin Mary and St. Joseph, respectively, to give importance to the Pinoy’s love for God.

    But, the strongest message of the SID is the Filipino’s love for its Kapamilyas.

    Dolphy, during the shoot, was quoted as saying, “I really like being part of ABS-CBN Station IDs kasi kumpleto lahat tayo.”

    True enough, more than a hundred Kapamilya stars participated in the SID. During his scene, Dolphy was surrounded by Kapamilya icons Susan Roces, Maricel Soriano and Judy Ann Santos.

    Sharon Cuneta was in her usual bubbly self the whole time she was on the set, while Piolo Pascual and Sam Milby, who just got off their plane from the US, gamely joked with Sharon and everyone on the location.

    Aga Muhlach with wife Charlene Gonzalez and Willie Revillame had time to exchange stories during the shoot. Showbiz royalties Boy Abunda, Ai-Ai de las Alas and Kris Aquino graced the gathering.

    Instead of reading other people’s heartwrenching testimonials, Maalaala Mo Kaya host and ABS-CBN executive vice president Charo Santos-Concio opted to give children a grand time with her kiddie stories. Meanwhile, Claudine Barretto led the roster of Star Magic talents in the SID.

    ASAP ’06 mainstays Zsa-Zsa Padilla, Vina Morales, Gary Valenciano and the Champions Christian Bautista, Rachelle Ann Go, Sheryn Regis and Erik Santos also had fun during the taping.

    Also taking part in the celebration were ABS-CBN’s News and Current Affairs personalities like Korina Sanchez, Ted Failon, Bernadette Sembrano, Julius Babao and Karen Davila.

    The SID also features a number of couples, real or reel – John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, Jericho Rosales and Heart Evangelista, Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, Maja Salvador and Jason Abalos, Shaina Magdayao and Rayver Cruz and Angelica Panganiban and Jake Cuenca.

    “It” Girls Toni Gonzaga, Mariel Rodriguez, Bianca Gonzales, and Nikki Gil lent their pretty faces to the plug, while Albert Martinez, Vhong Navarro, Matt Evans, Sam Concepcion, Zanjoe Marudo made sure female fans were not shortchanged.

    Pinoy Dream Academy headmaster Jim Paredes, with his scholars, also made his SID debut.

    Not to be outdone, child wonders Makisig Morales, Jairus Aquino, Sharlene San Pedro, Nash Aguas and other Goin’ Bulilit cast members, provided youthful energy during the shoot.

    The ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2006 is only one of ABS-CBN’s way of reminding its Kapamilyas that, no matter how hard times are, “sa Kapamilya mo, tuloy na tuloy ang Pasko.”

    “YOU all know me as an actor…”

    Jericho Rosales sheepishly introduces himself to the respectable but not exactly full-house habitués of BG’s Bar & Restaurant on Pasay Road in Makati. Yes, we all know him as the actor, a very good one at that and quite possibly one of the finest in his generation as most fans and film critics would agree.

    But Jericho, or Echo as he is more fondly referred to nowadays, is standing on stage as a different kind of entertainer—as the frontman of Jeans, a four-man combo that specializes in music that falls somewhere between the groove-oriented stylings of the Brand New Heavies and the heavy soul of the Style Council.

    It’s music that Echo and his crew, namely guitarist Dan Cerenado, bass player Jude Manota and drummer Aaron Ace Manio, actually have a strange term to describe. “It’s jazz with some fusion of rock, a bit of pop, funk and even a little disco,” they say. “But jazz is the center.”

    Jazz? Yes, jazz. It’s not exactly the kind of music you’d expect from Jericho or anything he’s associated with. Jeans, after all, is not really the guy’s first musical adventure. That would be the Hunks, the once super boy-band composed of matinee idols (Echo, Piolo Pascual, Diether Ocampo, Bernard Palanca and Carlos Agassi) whose common denominator was that they were all exclusive talents of ABS-CBN (Echo’s career is now managed by Manila Genesis Entertainment) that put them all together to begin with and whose music consisted mostly of tried-and-tested cover versions and showband favorites.

    Not that Echo wants to sound like he does not look at his stint with the Hunks with fondness. It’s just that a career in music is something that he always wanted to pursue, right from the very minute he signed up for the Mr. Pogi contest of top-rated noontime show, Eat Bulaga—except that it wasn’t something that people took him seriously for.

    “When I was asked by the Mr. Pogi organizers what talent I have, I told them I can sing,” he recalls. “They instead asked me to dance.”

    His dancing, as well as the songs he covered week in and week out at ABS-CBN’s ASAP, was also what most of the Hunks fans would remember of Echo as well. But what not too many people knew is that he continued to nurture his passion for music with the same intensity he has shown in his acting performance.

    He would play his guitar in his spare time, write songs whenever he can and widened his musical horizons by listening to an increasingly eclectic selection of musical genres that ranged from Depeche Mode and the Pet Shop Boys to Frank Sinatra and Doris Day to Aretha Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald.

    “I was particularly drawn to the jazz music of Blue Note and I have a nice collection of their CDs,” he beams referring to the legendary jazz record label that was home to such heavyweight jazz greats as John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins, Chet Baker, Ornette Coleman and Charlie Parker. “It’s what I listen to in the car most of the time, lalo na pag umuulan.”

    Echo’s perseverance eventually paid off when he met his match in Dan in 2004. A seasoned guitarist who counts the likes of Larry Carlton, Joe Pass, Herb Ellis and Lee Ritenour as inspiration, Dan helped Echo put together the missing pieces of Jeans. They found it in drummer Aaron, who actually grew up with gospel music, thanks to his father, who is a pastor, and Jude, a classically-trained musician who is also a former trumpet player.

    “It actually took us a few frustrating sessions to come up with the right sound,” Dan admits. “But Echo’s enthusiasm and energy is so inspiring. He likes everything to have no rules and no boundaries.”

    The result would be Loose Fit, the band’s 14-track debut CD of songs about “love, life, nature and relationships.” From the propulsive beats of “Nightsky,” “What Are We Doin’,” “Kasama Ka” and “Keep Off The Grass” to the mid-tempo grooves of “Mr. Mart,” “Tuwing Nakikita Ka” and “You’re So Beautiful” (with some really nice harmony vocals from, well, who else but Heart Evangelista) to the equally soulful strains of the more than obligatory ballads like “Ngayong Gabi” and “Comin’ Out” right down to the Blue Note homage of “Swim,” the record is an impressive debut from the get-go and certainly one of the year’s most pleasant surprises.

    Hell, even the “Panday” theme song that’s supposed to stick out like a sore thumb doesn’t really feel totally out of place here, thanks to some deft work from Echo’s chosen rhythm section.

    And the best part about it is that this is totally unexpected. Jeans is to Hunks as night is to day. While Echo can more than carry a tune here, his vocal chops hasn’t gotten to a point yet where his vocal chops are distinguishable enough even when you close your eyes, don’t read the CD’s credits or without the DJ actually identifying the artist. But given his remarkable range and his ability to shift from straight crooning to the occasional rapping to some near-scat singing, Echo has a bright musical future ahead of him if Jeans doesn’t turn out to be just another whimsical partake that superstars of his stature engage in during their supposed downtime.

    It doesn’t seem like it, though. It would be a lot easier for Echo to ask other people to write songs for him or record an album full of covers. But the guy, who is not really concerned with how the public will accept his Jeans project, opted for the road less traveled, creating his own music despite the lack of a formal training and the ability to read notes. That takes dedication, a firm resolve and, yes, at least a fair amount of real talent.

    “I can write a melody that I don’t know the notes to by simply humming what I had in mind with my mouth,” he enthuses. “That’s how I wrote most of the songs for this CD.”

    “Si Echo, bigyan mo lang ng chord pattern yan, kaya na nyang gawan ng kanta yan,” Dan concurs.

    Although all 14 tracks of Loose Fit are credited to Echo, he is quick to acknowledge that he got a lot of help from the rest of the band. “Everyone helped with the melody which flowed naturally by itself once we got our groove going,” he says.

    It’s too bad that Jeans doesn’t have enough confidence to perform all or at least most of the good material in Loose Fit in their live set at BG’s that night with only three originals in a set dominated by covers of U2, The Police, John Mayer and Lenny Kravitz. And there were times when Echo still moves like one of the Hunks but I guess old habits die hard. I guess that’s understandable, though. There are fans to please and expectations to fulfill but it would be nice to see that these guys cut loose, find their mojo and show us what they’re really made of.

    For the most part, Jeans was a marvel to watch and listen to as Echo’s contagious energy anchored the rest of the band’s tight musicianship punctuated by Dan’s crafty guitar work.

    Jeans is a pretty loose fit all right and one that is not likely to fade any time soon. Jericho Rosales is onto something here and maybe the time will come when we’ll all know him as more than just that actor.

    Heart Evangelista recovering fast from the accident

    “It could have been worse” is how Heart Evangelista puts the accident she suffered last Friday during the Penshoppe Denimlab concert held at Araneta Coliseum.
    Wearing a soft collar brace and still on pain relievers when she spoke with the press a few days ago, the actress relate how she sustained muscle strain in the neck that slightly impeded its extension flexion.
    “Echo (Rosales) and I were on hydraulic equipment that was supposed to lift us on stage when Ney Dimaculangan, the lead singer of 6Cyclemind, fell directly on us from seven feet up,”
    she says. ”He was unaware of the opening and so misjudged his bearings.”
    After performing her number upon her instance, Heart was rushed to the St. Luke’s Hospital where she took an x-ray exam. The producer of show wants her to undergo an M.R.I. (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) but Heart refused saying it wasn’t necessary.
    “I’m just thankful in a way that echo and I were there. Otherwise Ney would’ve fallen directly on the had surface which could’ve have been disastrous, maybe even fatal for him”, says the trouper who still appeared on Philippine Idol last Sunday were she was handpicked and now will be hosting from Monday to Friday, 8 to 8:30 p.m.
    Regarding her inclusion in the world acclaimed talent search, Heart’s manager Angeli Velenciano says that the move has a full blessing of abs-cbn and it’s not indicative at all of Heart’s changing allegiance to abc-5.
    “To abs credit, they understand how important this opportunity to Heart,” says Angeli .”The Idol contest is known worldwide and, at the very least, having it on Heart’s resume would be good for her should she decide to pursue international career later”.
    Or soon, Heart, after all, had just receive an offer to record in Australia on strength of a song title “tell me” she recorded years ago that recently hit the chat in top 20.The offer comes at a time when she too was being wooed by a local record label to ink up for an album following her 2003 debut that produce the hit singles “One” and “Love has come my way”
    “We’re still studying the offer though I will definitely interest in furthering my singing career like Jericho”. As they say when your heart tells you something it will lead you to it.”
    Schooling is also on her top priorities. This year, Heart will be finishing her secondary education after which she plans to take up either Interior Designing and Hotel and Restaurant Management in college.
    Now that she’s part of Genesis family, Heart is able to see recent developments in her career from Christian perspective.
    “Its like you’ve been okay all along when you suddenly fall and you don’t know what had happened. You look around things are upside down. But with good people around you, you rise as many times as you fall because you know you want to finish the race, If not for yourself at least for the people who believe in you. It ain’t over til it’s over. Life goes on,”

    Come check out the recently released coffee table book, Behind the Tears? (Nomadic Publishing, 2006), a diary of master photographer Jun de Leon’s crying sessions with 50 sparkling personalities in the fields of media, entertainment, fashion, business, and medicine.

    Produced as a fundraising and advocacy campaign for Eye Bank Foundation of the Philippines, the book immortalized the tears of Sharon Cuneta, Maricel Soriano, Judy Ann Santos, Kris Aquino, Che Che Lazaro, Ali Sotto, Arnold Clavio, Mike Enriquez, Vicky Morales, Vicki Belo, Melanie Marquez, director Jose Javier Reyes, Amanda Griffin, Inno Sotto, Martin Nievera, Jericho Rosales, Piolo Pascual, Lea Salonga, Rico Blanco, Kitchie Nadal, Sarah Geronimo, Christian Bautista, Aubrey Miles, and a lot more.

    “Eyes enable us to appreciate the beauty and talent of the celebrities,” said Dr. Dominga Padilla, founder and chairman, Eye Bank Foundation of the Philippines. “Proceeds from the sales of the book will go to our sight restoration programs so that more Filipinos can appreciate beauty.”

    Singer Gary Valenciano joined the campaign as gratitude for his continuing good health. According to the book’s creators, Gary’s participation in the crusade is “an impactful experience” as the actor gave away a bonus hopeful smile with his tear. Besides tears of joy, “designer tears” are also featured in the book. For example, Jun asked Jericho Rosales to shed tears that would fall in mid-air. Surprisingly, the actor was able to execute what he was asked for. Even Jericho’s partner, Heart Evangelista, was as astonishing a crier as he was. The book tells that Heart cried in just a few seconds after the cue was given, and can even make her tears pause from falling!

    Other remarkable shots in the book include that of Tessa Prieto-Valdez, whose tear mixed with her purple eye shadow; Pops Fernandez’s breath-taking pose; Karel Marquez’s cute smile; Gloria Diaz’s relived Miss Universe 1969 tears; and Albert Martinez’s “ecstatic” twin tears.

    Of all the stars, the book says Rica Peralejo and Christopher de Leon were the easiest to cry. Rica made Jun scramble for his camera as she started shedding tears right after she sat down. Her picture was taken in less than a minute.

    Nevertheless, there are also those whose tears are “a long time in the making.” Among them, according to the book, are Saksi hosts Vicky Morales and Arnold Clavio.

    Overall, the book is surprising at every turn of the page, though it makes it hard to navigate because it does not have a table of contents. Notwithstanding, the compilation makes its readers witness the stars’ reddening eyes; see the most unexpected people cry; have a clue on the artists’ off-cam behaviors; and sneak at what happened behind the scenes while the photo shoots were still ongoing.

    Recommended for the general public, Behind the Tears? is worth P1,295 a copy in all Powerbooks branches.

    Heart of Mine

    At 21, Heart Evangelista is a picture of a mature young lady ready to handle any obstacles that would hamper her happiness, especially when it concerns her love life. She firmly believes that it’s time to make decisions and take charge of her own affairs. Despite the various opinions and criticisms, she manages to survive . . . and cheerfully.

    Heart enthusiastically shares her ideas on love, marriage and Jericho “Echo” Rosales in this Bridal Issue of Woman Today Asia.

    Dream Wedding
    “Since I love the beach, my dream wedding should also be held on the beach.” She says. “I want it simple, intimate and private, more of a family affair, probably with just a couple of close friends. I don’t want a big wedding. It’s been my dream since I was a child. I prefer not to have any tv coverage. I’ll probably just have one video guy to do everything, then I’ll just distribute it to any network who may be interested in featuring my wedding.

    “I don’t believe there’s an ideal age for marriage. When I feel I’m ready, I don’t mind getting married this young. I’m not the dating type, where I date a lot of men. I’m contented going out with one guy, so I wouldn’t mind spending the rest of my life with that person.

    “I guess marrying young is a blessing because you can do a lot of things together as husband and wife. Besides, people will stop talking behind our backs, because we’re married already.”

    Here comes the bride?
    Does this mean wedding bells for her and Echo? “Not now,” she professes, “just give me a couple of years. I’m only 21; I wouldn’t mind getting married at 23. Although as I’ve said, I have no specific age in getting married. When it happens, then it will happen.”

    Heart explains, “If you are prepared to spend the rest of your life with that one guy, and you’re happy together and contented everyday of your life, then a woman is ready to say I do.”

    Having gone steady with Echo for more than a year, we asked Heart if he is the guy she wants to be with for the rest of her life.

    “I wouldn’t mind,” she quickly replies.”He’s such a good guy. Napakabait na lalaki. He has all the qualities I’m looking for in a guy. He’s a very good candidate for a future husband.

    “He’s a good son, father, friend and a good boyfriend. He adores me and I adore him. We’re barkada, but it took some time, around four months, to get to know each other. He was not exactly my crush because I was not much into showbiz men. Honestly, there was no chemistry at first. It only started when we had a workshop together.

    “Echo is undoubtedly a sincere person. He has a good heart and if you have a good heart, everything follows. I love him for who he is and there’s nothing I want to change in him. I like older men. I don’t like guys my age.

    “We have talked about marriage in passing,” smiles Heart. “Actually, we have made a promise that breaking up is not a solution for the two of us. We have found everything that we’ve been looking for in each other. We’ll see how things go, as we have other things to consider. Of course, we need to save money and do other commitments. What is important is that we promised we should keep each other.”

    Love knows no bounds
    Heart admits that as partners, they’ve gone through a lot of things together. She believes that everything that has happened in their relationship has made them stronger. “Honestly, we don’t regret anything. I’m committed with this relationship,” she stresses.

    What if Jericho proposes marriage? “I really don’t know what to say until he does. But definitely, I would be happy with my reaction. Let’s see what happens next. I don’t want to pre-empt anything. If ever I get married, I will never hide it from the public.

    “If I settle down with Echo, which I’m praying hard for, I will support him in his decisions. I love everything that he loves to do. I will not stop him with his career. Wherever his heart takes him, I will always be behind him. And I’m sure he will do the same with me. I will still be in showbiz, even if I get married,” relates this born-again Christian.

    “I know that some people, after reading this, would say that I’m so young to say these things. But they don’t understand that in showbiz, with all the experiences you’ve been through, the moment you turn 18, you feel like you’re 30 years old. Showbiz is a different world; it matures you beyond your age. It’s also nice that you meet different kinds of people. Echo’s family is simple, but they’re so nice.”

    “We do argue, pero hindi naman yung away ng away,” she says. “We argue mostly about our schedules, not so much about my clothes. It depends, sometimes he just comments. I also don’t want to appear off-cam wearing too sexy outfits. It doesn’t matter who says sorry first.”

    Future plans and other matters
    “Five years from now, I’ll be 26. I want to be married by then, probably with one child,” she says. “I don’t want to rush having kids because I want to enjoy the things that a married couple would like to do. Why rush having kids when you could enjoy each other’s company first?”

    Heart is now co-hosting Philippine Idol, Saturday and Sunday nights over ABC 5. She’s also preparing her second album; negotiations are undergoing with an Australian producer (Gromic Records) for its international release.

    Alongside her showbiz career, Heart also hopes to go back to school next year. Given the chance, she wants to take up veterinary medicine or interior design. An animal lover, Heart has three dogs at home: a Jack Russell terrier and two Cocker Spaniels.

    May Charity Project si Heart

    Nagsimula na ang proyekto ni Heart Evangelista na tumutulong sa mga mahihirap na kabataan na may pulmonary diseases. Sinimulan ni Heart ang “Heart Can” project sa pamamagitan ng isang mall show noong October 20 sa SM South Mall sa Las Pinas kung saan ay ipinamahagi ang mga Heart Cans sa ilang mga stalls sa nasabing mall. Sa mga Heart Can ihuhulog ang mga donation ng publiko para sa project ni Heart.

    Ang logo ng Heart Can ay idinesenyo ni Eric Villarama, asawa ni Donita Rose. May slogan pa ang mga nasabing can — “A drop of love, a breath of life.” Sa sampung road show ni Heart ay ipapamahagi ang nasabing mga Heart Cans.

    By December ay umaasa si Heart na makakalipon sila ng 2 million pesos. Ang pondong makokolekta ay ido-donate sa Pediatric Pulmonary Foundation. Ang mga makikinabang ng pondo ay mga mahihirap na kabataan mula 0 hanggang 18 years old.

    Talagang pursigido si Heart sa project na ito dahil na rin sa encouragement at support ng kanyang mga kaibigan. At ito ay malapit sa kanyang puso dahil si Heart ay meron ding pulmonary disease. Asthmatic si Heart at nahihirapan siya nang matindi kapag inaatake siya. Huli siyang inatake ng asthma noong kasagsagan ng shooting niya ng fantaseryeng “Ang Panday.”

    Alam ni Heart kung gaano kahirap magkaroon ng pulmonary disease. Isa pa, may kamahalan ang pagpapagamot nito.

    Sa ngayon ay masaya si Heart sa takbo ng kanyang career. Bukod sa pagiging MYX VJ ay in-demand pa rin siyang product endorser. Host din si Heart sa “Philippine Idol” na napapanood sa ABC 5.

    Maging sa love life ay happy ngayon si Heart sa piling ni Jericho Rosales. Unti-unti na rin nawawala ang gap sa pagitan ni Heart at ng kanyang pamilya.

Tsika ni Angeli Valenciano, ang earnings ng actor sa regular show ay kinikita nito by doing corporate shows, guestings at gigs ng banda nitong Blue Jeans.

    Open daw sana si Heart to do another soap with her boyfriend, pero suportado nito ang desisyon ni Jericho na magbakasyon muna sa acting at mag-concentrate sa music.

    Babalik sa acting ang actor through a teleserye na gagawin sa Malaysia, kung saan sikat siya. Sa January next year ang start ng taping and with Malaysian actors as co-stars.

    Heart Evangelista (pictured above, with her pet Davis) embarks on a three-month mall tour in support of Heart Can, a project aimed at raising P2 million by December 2007 for indigent children afflicted with pulmonary allergy (or asthma). Funds from Heart Can will go to the Shining Light Foundation before being turned over to the Pediatric Pulmonary Foundation, which benefits newborns to 18-year old children.

    Myx VJ Heart Evangelista knows firsthand the difficulties of living with pulmonary allergy (or asthma). She herself has felt the toll of this disease on her body, which is why she had no qualms about embarking on a three-month mall tour aimed at raising funds for under-privileged kids afflicted with bronchial asthma.

    During an October 19 interview with Heart at Don Henrico’s in Quezon City, she shares her passion for this project: “It’s a benefit for children with pulmonary allergy. The right medication, attention for them, fitness for them. I needed to help these kids—to give medications to them. I’ve always wanted to do this,” states Heart.

    Heart Evangelista’s relationship with Jericho Rosales has been showered with intrigues. Despite all that, they are still together. She says that she wants Jericho to be her last boyfriend. “It’s ridiculous sometimes but we just have each other. We just laugh about it. It’s fine. If a problem comes, all we have to do is embrace each other. We don’t feel the pain anymore,” shares Heart.

    What makes Jericho extra special to Heart? “He’s God fearing, he’s a nice guy, a good son, good dad, good brother and he loves me a lot. I love him,” confides Heart.

    Her talent management company Manila Genesis is promoting Heart Can, a unique mall show that aims to spread awareness on pulmonary allergy (asthma). Heart is thrilled to be doing this mall show with a cause: “When we talked with Genesis, we all put it together. I’m very happy I’m doing something for a reason. The reason why God has been blessing me with everything is because He has a mission for me. This is probably one of my missions-to help people. It’s a blessing.”

    Over the next few months, Heart Cans—coin banks specifically made for the cause—will be distributed nationwide in various establishments. Donations will go to the Shining Light Foundation before being turned over to the Pediatric Pulmonary Foundation, which helps indigent children from newborns to 18-year olds.

    The Heart Can mall tour kicked off last October 20 at the SM Southmall and will end on December 9 at SM Batangas.

    Reaching out to the Gold Coast

    Angeli Pangilinan, head of Genesis, has grand plans for Heart. The wife of Gary Valenciano hopes to establish her ward internationally since, according to her, Heart’s Asian features give her a distinct advantage.

    Aside from promoting Heart Can, the Myx VJ has her hands full with an upcoming album. There is no definite album title yet since they are still scanning through a list of 30 songs. When finished, the album will be launched in Australia and the Philippines.

    “My song ‘Tell me’ two years ago reached Top 18 of Top 50 charts in Australia. I didn’t know about it. Now, I’m going to launch an album there and it’s gonna be tied up with a local company here. [They] have to be compatible,” says Heart. According to her manager Angeli, negotiations for the project are still ongoing.

    Nakaparada sa labas ng Don Hen Rico’s restaurant ang bagong kotse ni Heart Evangelista na isang white B-class habang ini-interbyu namin siya para sa kanyang bagong fundraising project na “Heart Can”. Binili ni Heart ang latest Mercedes Benz model a month ago.

    “My dad’s favorite kasi is Benz. When we were growing up, ‘yan na ang kotse namin. So, naisip ko since I’m getting my own car, mas mabuti na bilhin ko ‘yung nakasanayan ko na. Dream car din kasi ng Daddy ko ‘yan for me,” pahayag ni Heart.

    Sinabi ni Jericho Rosales sa isang radio interview na kapag nag-break sila ni Heart, hindi na raw hahanap ng ibang girlfriend ang aktor. “Okey, ‘di ba?” ngiti ni Heart. “As much as possible — actually, ‘yung balitang nag-break kami, hindi ko alam saan na naman nanggaling ‘yun. But breaking up is not the solution for the two of us.”

    kUNG SIYA NA ANG HULING BABAE FOR ECHO, napa-in JESUS name naman si Heart sa tanong namin na ang aktor din kaya ang huling guy for her. Pinapili si Echo during that interview sa radio kung sino ang better girlfriend between Kristine Hermosa at Cindy Kurleto. Ang girlfriend ngayon ni Diether Ocampo ang pinili ng nobyo ni Heart.

    “I agree,” diin ni Heart. Nu’ng tanungin namin si Heart kung nag-meet na sila ni Cindy, “I don’t know her,” ang naging sagot niya. Anyway, matagal na palang gusto ni Heart na magtayo ng isang outreach program for children. Ang Genesis na siyang nagha-handle ng career niya ngayon ang nag-suggest sa kanya na mag-concentrate on kids with pulmonary allergies since asthmatic si Heart. Nakalagay ang Heart Can sa iba’t ibang establishments like Penshoppe boutiques at Smart Business Centers.   261. HEART says no to ‘pre-marital sex’

    She may be 100 percent sure about Jericho Rosales being the right guy for her, but Heart Evangelista is not about to let her heart control her head. Marriage is not in the cards for the two. Jericho can’t shirk his many responsibilities, while she has dreams to chase.

    “We have to be both stable first before we settle down, although the thought is there,” Heart says during a presscon of Genesis Entertainment. But one thing she assured us: If they’re finally getting married they won’t keep it a secret.

    Heart is also quite firm about pre-marital sex: “I don’t believe in it. I believe we would get blessings if we got married first.”

    ABS-CBN has not lined up as many projects for her as before, but she’s not complaining. She likes the pace her career has taken. She has more time for herself. She’s taking review classes at the Messiah Foundation in preparation for college. The past seven years had been hectic for her.

    “I was so immersed in work. It was so draining. Now I’m at peace with myself and living a good life. I like it this way.”

    She’s still a video jock at MYX and regularly appears in ABC-5′s Philippine Idol. She has renewed her commercial contracts and will cut an album for an Australian recording company, Gromic, which she hopes would be released before the year ends. The album will contain all original songs.

    Heart will also do a movie with Dennis Trillo. She was supposedly cast in ‘Wag Kang Lilingon, a horror flick by Star Cinema, but she begged off. She says she doesn’t do horror films because she doesn’t want to imbibe negative vibes. She has in fact turned down two such films.

    Heart recently launched The Heart Can, a fundraiser for underprivileged kids with asthma.

    Heart herself is asthmatic. During the taping for Panday, a nurse was standing in case Heart suffered an attack.

  262. Banned in GMA 7?

    As a result of the piracy rumors, GMA 7 has reportedly put on hold its plans to hire ABS-CBN stars as guests on its shows. One scuttlebutt even alleged that Jericho Rosales is banned from GMA 7 for insinuating that he’s being wooed by the Kapuso network.

    Not true, said Gina Martinez of Genesis, which is now handling Echo’s music career. “What I heard is that there is a temporary directive not to guest ABS-CBN stars on GMA 7 shows,” Martinez told Inquirer Entertainment. “It’s not limited to Echo; it’s for all ABS-CBN stars.” Martinez insisted that Genesis does not spread rumors that its stars are being pirated by networks. “We’ve been in the business for 20 years. That’s not our style.”
